Molecular Model of an Ideal Gas

This applet shows you how the pressure of an ideal gas depends on volume, temperature and number of moles of the gas.

If the applet does not appear, please try the following:
(1) Download the Java software from www.java.com.
(2) Go to the menu: Tools > Turn off Pop-Up Blocker.
(3) Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security > Allow Active Contents.
(4) Start Menu > All Programs > Java > Configure Java > Security and then add this website to the Exception Site List.


As the number of moles n increases, pressure p increases.
As temperature T increases, pressure p increases.
As volume V decreases, pressure p increases.

The pressure p, volume V and temperature T of a gas are related by the formula:
p V = n R T
where n = number of moles of molecules
and R = molar gas constant = 8.31 J kg-1 K-1
